Dr. Mae (as she’s known to her students) is the primary investigator for the Social Constructions of Identity (SCI) Lab. In the SCI Lab, members examine the personal, academic, and career identity development of marginalized individuals and communities using critical and intersectional lenses. Researchers are committed to addressing the influence of systemic oppression on identity formation and experiences on “the margins”. Students are trained as scholar-practitioners who utilize pragmatic and social justice approaches to research. Methodological approaches used in the lab include qualitative, mixed methods, community-based participatory research, or arts-based research. The SCI Lab features three primary areas of research:
