Shirlie Mae Peralta is a 1.5 generation Filipina American who splits her time between Los Angeles County and Placer County. Dr. Mae (as she is known to their students) is currently a faculty member at Mount Saint Mary’s University where they serve as the Director of Research for the Clinical PsyD Program. Dr. Mae has over 20 years of experience working in the nonprofit sector in the areas of grant writing, program development, cross-cultural mediation, anti-bias training, and creative writing. Their primary research area is on the personal identity and career development of people of color in the social sciences, arts, and humanities. Dr. Mae has degrees in Asian American Studies from the University of California at Santa Barbara and University of California at Los Angeles. They also hold a Ph.D. in Education with a concentration in Higher Education Administration and Student Affairs from Claremont Graduate University.

In their down time, Dr. Mae enjoys spending time with family and furbabies, playing tabletop games, geeking out over numerous pop culture fandoms, creative writing, cross-stitching, or enjoying the silence.
